Have this feeling that i should be studying for the quiz tomorrow or try figure out my assignments. But here I am, after 25 days in California, trying to sit down and write something=p
Alot have happened since the last time I blogged. Lets see.
School is full of work and quizes. The person who told me that school here is slack is either lying, not doing 5 courses or is not from Chemical Engineering. I swear that I use my brains more often here doing Matlab then in Singapore. But perhaps, if I never did have to rely on solely myself, I may never pick it up again. AND i still cant remember the name of the species with the smallest genome. ba. thats question #1 of quiz#1. haha..have already gotten used to the classroom environment and all that. No longer as sleepy as I was in the first two weeks. Darn. I was dozing off. heh. Greatest inconvenience in class: Last names. haha.. It feels weird to have to give my name as Tan when collecting assignments back and stuff. haha.. worst. Tan Wei Ling. They thought that my last name is Ling. So im technically Tan Wei. haha.. but nevermind, now they know=p
Was at Lawr's apt eating dinner with the Thais. The Thais invited other Thais. And so. This guy came. He does International Ballrm. *DANCE DANCE DANCE DANCE* ba. paiseh. esp i did the basic step wrong for 2 times. Not my fault. 'cause he uses 6 counts and I used 8. But the 5 seconds of jive had been so fun. He is very good at leading *he said he had been dancing all his life. Maybe like Allan's son?* And there after, I was haunted by Jive music. Everywhere I walk, I keep catching myself going 'doo doo bi doo'. haha..
An American who went to NUS for exchange brought us to LA last Saturday. You know what? For the FIRST time here, I brought my UMBRELLA out!! haha.. RAIN eh~ in the morning. COOL eh. haha.. havent seen rain since since. haha.. but the smell of the rain is not as strong. *Obsession* ba. I think I like LA's food and shopping better but SB's environment more.
1) Santa Monica. Great view of the sea (gulls), nice breeze, nice temperature. Good (but expensive) restaurants. I see alot of Fish and Chips there and have been craving for it ever since. haha.. We ate at somewhere else and I had Taco (Mexican) again. haha.. Been eating so much Mexican! The themepark in Santa Monica is very small and basic. For kids. Heaven for soft toy collecting (if u ever did stop and play). Huge toys.

2) Beverly Hills. This I am surprised. Never really knew what its about and I seriously thought that its some nature reserve or stuff like that. Its a HILL right? haha.. but yup. An uber expensive hill for the rich. The houses there just.. spells GLAMOUR in your face. The CHEAPEST shop there is Polo Ralph I think. Even then, I did not dare step into THIS Polo Ralph. The design of the shop is just too luxurious, with two rows of plants forming a walk way into the shop, for me to step into. Ladies dressed in dresses, fur, silk, walking puny dogs (trust me, they are smaller than our smallest 'grandfather dog'). ba. Cars. meant for the sole purpose of parading and letting others take photos. Batman sports car and Limo!!! Cars gleaming under the sunlight. Can someone tell me how rich they are?! haha.. but at least I bought something. Reese choc peanut butter cups? On sale 1 pack for 1USD. I bought 2. HAHA..

3) Hollywood. This place is Messy. For me. So many shophouses, little alleys. Went to the Wax Museum and the Guiness Record Museum. Took neoprints and got an attempted scare by some random passerby (a tv showing the passerbys what we were doing in front of the neoprint camera). But anyway, I was too Slow to react, and so it really wasnt scary. haha.. just very random. People crossplay and dressed as Jack, Spiderman etc etc. We must be looking like tourist. Because they will come up and say 'how about taking a photo together?' and grab u, take photo and 'don't forget that you are supposed to tip'. I don't really mind tipping. But when there are so many people who are proactive and also guys who grab u so tightly at the waist when taking photos... I have to remember that this is America.

Still at Hollywood. This Korean shop owner was so happy that there is a group of koreans in his shop that he charged us a few cents cheaper even after we clarified that we are not koreans. haha.. Food food food. Had Chinese chicken fried rice. Seriously, what happened to american? I'm so going to eat my first ever burger in America by next week. haha.. Oooo.. I bought a simple V-neck red dress. 10USD. haha.. Was telling Susan that I can wear it in Singapore with my tube. She said: No~ you should just wear it here. *I didnt bring my tube* NO~ its the american culture. You can just wear it. *Laughs, tickles* Stopped over at IN-AND-OUT on the way back. Fresh French Fries. Im serious. They use real potatoes (not that there are fake ones) with this machine like bench press to make fries!! And gosh. it melts in the mouth.
Dinner out the next night for Good Chinese with Japanese, Koreans and Taiwanese. Proper Chinese restaurants are just part of essential splurging. haha.. the meat they serve in school is just too big and too hard a chunk for my teeth to take it. Sore gums after eating=p But restaurants are DIFFERENT (der~).

Monday and Tuesdays were spent at Birthday parties. Monday was Porn's bday celebration at San Clemente Apts. This Thai can seriously cook. The sauce that she made from raw ingredients is SO GOOD. my~ its one of my top ranking food man. I can eat it with plain rice and still enjoy the meal. *WHY DID THEY SPRAY WHIPCREAM INTO MY MOUTH?! It was the grab head grad hands aim and spray kinda thing. WHY ME?! Tuesday was Kevin's and Raphael's. haha.. so many birthdays going on.. so many nights spent not sleeping enough=p
And so, I promised myself that I'll go home early on Wednesday and sleep. 'There is the buddy- programme-meet-up later right?' *HUH* My Buddy is an American (der~) in her senior year. Monica Kelsh. Its easy to find her on facebook because there is only one Monica Kelsh in the entire facebook!! AWESOME~ wah. its an Incredibly unique name don't you think?! She did EAP (Education Abroad Programme) in Spain. We got so excited talking about her Europe tour. Probably going to meet up with her again this weekend for food=)
And I finally received a reply for my International Friendship Programme that matches EAP students to a local family. haha..
'I heard from Tim (program coordinator) that you do TaeKwondo. I am a SECOND DEGREE BLACK BELT and have been practising for FIFTEEN YEARS' *whoa*
'Tom ______
DOCTOR OF PHYSICAL THERAPY'
!!!!
haha.. hope that I'll get to meet Tom and Kristen soon. Probably next week for dinner=)
So you do see the number of hours I have been sleeping to complete my time-consuming programming on time. haha.. *MUSIC from next door party* Thanks in particular to sl and yf for keeping me awake to do my work.
Confirmed my joining of Biobiz 09 in the sponsorship team. There are great plans and I hope that everything will turn out real successful. *Fingers cross* It will be. I'll work hard (when Im back in Singapore).
The news here is dominated by debates on the Economy and the Presidential election. How the shares are dropping, why is the economy like that, McCain's health vs Obama's. Poll results. etc etc. At least you know that the reports are very direct and honest. My. They can just about say anything. 4th Nov. 'Voting is COOL, Apathy is NOT' (The posters around school).
Very randomly got to know this girl from class in the restroom. haha.. she said hi and I was thinking who is she. Further conversation proves that she is one my classmates. Senior year. I told her Im a Junior and she went "then why are you speeding up your courses so much?!" haha..
Its almost a month since I came. Things here are really fine. haha.. I have about 2 more months of school and 2 wks of touring before its all over. Gotta treasure the little time I have here. And learn not to go party all the time. Its tiring business. haha..
Mummy Daddy, Im doing real good. No problems here at all. Other than my missing Fish and Chips=p Don't worry so much. This is a nice and safe place=)
*sending hugs to my family and friends*
