Sigh. my satu B curse. Remained unbroken.
No change in CAP since everything is S/U-ed.
I really didn't think I study very hard especially since I was chatting alot and my TBs remained fingerprint-less. But somehow, the grades didn't suck as much as I expect them to. Well.

oh. I passed my Social Dance class=) can't remember a thing now.

Vegas- city of sin.

Im doing this in boston. After being to vegas, going through my exams and after the Chicago trip. Haha.. I know that this is pretty back dated. Going to split the post up.

Okie. Lets start with vegas- the city of sin! Haha.. and u see how it gets its name. being there, there is this sense of being very detached from reality. Buildings are designed with special themes like new york’s statue of liberty, Hollywood, Eiffel tower in paris and stuff like that. All the lighting and the glamour to mask the fact that people are indeed probably suffering. The things you do there? Gamble, drink, shop and spend like you THINK you are a rich kid. The rich male lead who appears only in drama. Sex is very much the IN promotion. There are HUNDRED of people giving out cards (advertisement) to provide channels to contact hot babes should you need one tonight tomorrow night or just whenever.

Its glamour with an empty shell. Its vegas.

But I enjoyed myself. For one, imagination is a powerful tool and I do believe that indulging in your dreams is a very natural thing to do there. And so I did.

Walking around vegas, I marveled at the architecture. How difficult must it have been to calculate the perfect ratio and angle to support the structures and the building. There were just rolls after rolls of hotels all with a special theme. And yes, we were sight-seeing hotels.=p

Gambling is common. I stuck to slots. And since my hotel –Monte Carlo had a promotion to give me 20USD credits, I got to play by putting none of my money on the table. And I got back 23USD!!! Haha.. which is rare since most people usually lose. So technically I should have gotten less than 20 back. Lucky~ where I was staying, it was $5 minimum bet at the tables if you are playing poker etc etc. I saw at Bellagio (another hotel) that theirs was $500 minimum=) nice.

Buffets are not cheap, but affordable. A normal one would probably cost ~ 12-20USD. Had one at the Eiffel tower and one at my hotel. Loads of sea food which I completely missed ever since coming to America. Crabs and shrimps. Thinking about they made me real hungry. There were desserts, breakfast, meat etc etc etc. Despite most preferring the buffet at the paris hotel, I actually liked the cheaper one at my hotel. At the very least, I think they make better dessert and their fish is fresher. Know how particular am I with my dessert and my fish. =p well, the guys ate a lot (except Kenny) but its so ‘bo hua’ for the girls la. Jia lat but enjoyable.

Grand Canyon/ Hoover dam tour. This was a career-induced problem. When we were told that the real big hole at the dam is to drain excess water should the dam exceed the critical level, I started thinking ‘whoa. Such a huge hole. So the flow rate will probably.. the pressure in the hole and the atmosphere… And I did the freaking fluid mechanics ‘square box flow in flow out turbulence’ kind of model in my head. Bad. The dam is very basically a concrete structure built across water. Haha.. aint having too much to talk about the dam. It may have been really impressive in the past, but I think its technology should be pretty common now. Canyon was COLD COLD COLD. Literally freezing our fingers off. The hole in the ground as it is most commonly described as is impressive. Grand. So huge. The sunlight shines forming distinct layers and shades on the walls and you just have to see it. I can’t help but think about the swordfighting novels that I was once so obsessed with. Like.. they had condors there! I’m serious. And so.. maybe Yang Guo and Xiao Long Nu were staying at the base on the canyon with their Shen Diao. So, we were reciting ‘wen shi jian qing wei he wu, zhi jiao ren sheng si xiang xu’ at the canyon. It was all nice until a friend tripped and cut herself and had to get stitches. It was freaky looking at the wound 5cm long and 0.8 cm deep. But at the canyon, far from everything, I just had to pretend to be calm and clean the wound for her. No point having 2 people shivering right. Glad that all’s well.

We dressed up for the show at the $500-minimum-bet-hotel, Bellagio. It’s a performance called ‘O’ by the circus cirque de Soliee. It was really cool with live band and choir at the 2 rooms beside the stage. The stage has water like a pool where the performers can dive into. And yet, mechanisms had it such that at times, performers will be able to ‘walk’ on the water! Meaning that there must be a platform beneath the water that rises and falls as required! How cool is that. From what I was thinking, there must be at least half a dozen mechanisms around the stage! I must admit that I was too tired from the previous day and didn’t have the energy to comprehend the show. But the engineering parts, I’m truly impressed. Of course, the show is extremely good. Its just too abstract for me. Still nice to watch though!

There were also free shows around. We managed to catch the one at Treasure island. They had real fireworks, ships that can half sink, cannons that can set the ships ‘on fire’! Real fire. The thing that totally ‘swept me off my feet’ was when the fireworks came on unexpectedly and I could suddenly understand why the female lead in those dramas are touched by such romantic scenes. Im usually not very romantic, but at that time, I was really pleasantly surprised!

Last of all, allow me to introduce shopping on Black Friday. Its absolutely the best day to do your shopping. Black Friday is the Thurs-Friday transition right after Thanksgiving (which commemorates harvest when the Europeans who came to America were first taught the technique by the American Indians ie, natives. Crazy sales were ongoing. How cheap? Adidas sports shoe for 20USD, AX dress for 15USD etc etc. Cheap enough to make Lawr spend a whole 700USD on shopping. SEVEN HUNDRED ok?? If I don’t have a budget, I would have splurged! But its okie, I’ll do more shopping when I’m at New york city- 0 sales tax. Nice!

Vegas may be a city of Illusions but it is definitely somewhere that one would have to experience to understand. Great retreat to help you forget the headaches from the real life and just bum around for a while. Know your limits and you should do really fine in Vegas!
